3. Will my student have excused absences for missing school due to Covid?

Absences due to Covid are not counted against students. Please ensure you have emailed sdodds@dallasisd.org to have your student’s absences excused for quarantine/isolation.

   1. When you send an email to a teacher, always copy your student’s Assistant Principal on the email to ensure timely communication.

1. Who do I speak to about AFC (Attendance for Credit)? 

   1. Please call (972) 925-5903 to get more information on AFC. 

2. Does my student owe hours for AFC? 

   1. If you are unsure your student owes hours for AFC, please contact the Attendance Office or have your student contact the AFC contact for their school. 

   2. If your student is not on the list, they do not owe any hours for AFC at the time. We encourage you and the student to continue to check WEEKLY! 

   3. If your student owes hours, they should plan to attend AFC sessions until their hours are completed.

3. I was not aware that my student owed hours for AFC and there are not enough sessions left. What should I do?

   1. Students are made aware of their AFC requirement and parents should speak with their students regarding hours owed. 

4. My student did not make up all of their hours. What should I do? 

   1. You will need to speak with your student’s counselor about night school, summer school, or Reconnect.

1. If my student drives, are they able to leave campus for a doctor’s appointment? 

   1. Under 18: No, if the student is under the age of 18 the parent MUST sign the student out in person.

1. Students are expected to stay at school from the time they arrive until the end of the school day at 4:30 PM.

2. If a student has to leave early, a parent/guardian must come to the school office and sign out their student, present the proper identification, and check the student out of school.

      2. If your student has an appointment or needs to leave early be sure to arrive before 4:00 PM, pickups after 4:00 PM will have to wait till the school Bell Rings at 4:30 PM.

2. How do I speak to my student’s registrar?  

   1. The registrar is available to speak with parents/guardians in person by preferably making an appointment. Please call (972)-925-5903 to make an appointment.

3. How can I edit my student’s emergency contact/pick-up list? 

   1. Your student can collect a form to take home for you to complete OR

   2. come in person to complete and bring parent ID.

4. I need an official document for my student, like a VOE, transcript, etc. Where can I get these documents?

   1. Records must be requested online or by the QR Code hung around campus. This process may take up to 42 business hours to complete. Please keep this turnaround time in mind when requesting records.

1. My student was marked absent by the teacher/sub, but my student was in class. What should I do?

   1. Advise your student to speak to their teacher.  If that fails, email your student's teacher. The Attendance Office cannot make changes to attendance without a teacher completing an Attendance Correction form.

2. My student was out for a school related event, and their teacher marked them absent. Do I need to call the attendance office to let them know? 

   1. No, once we receive the School Function form the sponsor of the event, we will correct the student’s attendance. 

3. My student had a medical appointment. Do I need to get a note from the visit? 

   1. Yes. Handwritten notes and verbal statements for doctor’s visits are not accepted by the Attendance Office. 

   2. A Healthcare Provider Note must be provided to property excuse the absent.  

4. Where do I turn in a sick note?

   1. Sick notes should be uploaded to the Attendance QR Code or :

      1. Email jannmata@dallasisd.org if unable to upload onto the form.

5. Do I need to call the campus to inform them my student will be out for the day? 

   1. No, please have your student upload their note the date the student returns so that all days missed are processed..

   2. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT MULTIPLE EXCUSE NOTE FOR THE SAME ABSENCE 

6. I received an automated call stating that my student was absent?

If the student was marked absent during the first class of the day, then an automated call will be made to the main phone number in the contacts list. If the student was late, please give the teacher a moment to correct their attendance. If they do not correct it you may refer to Question A.
