    Ms. Lida Hooe

    Mary Eliza “Lida” Hooe was the daughter of Douglas Mc. Lean Hooe and May Eliza Tilley and born September 14th.

    Lida Hooe graduated from Dallas High School as a valedictorian in 1892-1893.  She taught in Dallas schools and in 1904 became the first supervisor of Penmanship and studies art in Virginia and there became acquainted with the artist Georgia O’Keefe, who later visited in the Hooe home.  Lida died September 27, 1923.  Lida Hooe was opened and named for her that same year.  She is buried in Oakland Cemetery. 

    The school was named after a former teacher and writing supervisor.
