• Pick Your Path: Developing Your Graduation Plan

    As required by the State Legislature, Texas high school graduation plans will take on a new look starting with the 2014-2015 school year. Under the new plans, eighth-grade students will choose an endorsement or area of study to focus on when they enter high school. Students will be able to select from five endorsements, which will allow them to personalize the plan to their interest.


    Distinguished Level of Achievement

    		  

    Endorsement = 26 credits
    • English/language arts (4 cr)
    • Mathematics (4 cr) (including Algebra II)
    • Science (4 cr)
    • Social studies (3 cr)
    • Language other than English (2 cr)
    • Fine art (1 cr)
    • P.E. (1 cr)
    • Electives (3 cr)
    		     
     

    • Eligible for automatic admission to a  Texas four-year college or university under top 10% rule

    • Eligible for Texas grant

    Endorsements

    Foundation Plan  +  4 additional credits* = 26 Credits
    *Additional Credits -1 adv. Mathematics or CTE Mathematics, 1 adv. Science or CTE Science, 2 Electives

    This pathway will allow students to select courses from: science, including environmental science, technology, including computer science, engineering, and advanced mathematics.

     

    This pathway will allow students to select courses from: database management, information technology, communications, accounting, finance, marketing, graphic design, architecture, construction, welding, logistics, automotive technology, agricultural science, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

    This pathway will allow students to select courses from: health sciences and occupations, education and training, law enforcement, and culinary arts and hospitality.

    This pathway will allow students to select courses from: political science, world languages, cultural studies, English literature, history, and fine arts.

    This pathway will allow students to:

    • select courses from the curriculum of each endorsement area described by Subdivisions and
    • earn credits in a variety of advanced courses from multiple content areas sufficient to complete the distinguished level of achievement under the foundation high school program.

    Foundation Plan (22 Credits)
    • 4 credits English – ELA I, II, III, one credit in any authorized English course
    • 3 credits Mathematics – Algebra I, Geometry, one credit in any authorized Mathematics course
    • 3 credits Science – Biology, IPC/Chemistry/Physics, one credit in any authorized science course
    • 3 credits Social Studies – World Geography or World History, U.S. History, U.S. Government (.5 credit), Economics (.5 credit)
    • 2 credits Languages Other Than English
    • 1 credit Physical Education
    • 1 credit Fine Arts
    • 5 credits in electives (may include CTE or certification courses)

    • Eligible for admission to a Texas four-year college or university
