Our meals support student achievement! From breakfast to lunch to dinner - and more - our meals feature delicious proteins, whole grains, abundant fruits and vegetables, and nutrition-packed milk. The research is clear – the better we eat, and the better we take care of ourselves, the better we perform across a broad range of activities, including academics. Even better, all of our meals are served at “no cost” to students. At Dallas ISD, eating healthy does not mean high prices. Our incredible Food & Child Nutrition Services staff are the key to our success. From licensed dietitians to skilled delivery drivers to our ServSafe certified kitchen supervisors, our Super Crew works to deliver their best for 鶹students

. Across more than 200 school kitchens, and at our central kitchen facility, our skilled team members show their love for students by preparing delicious and healthy meals which feature many Texas-grown or produced items, including fresh produce from farms across Texas. In other words, eating school meals frequently means eating local. Speaking of local, many of our employees are themselves 鶹graduates, and many have children or grandchildren in our schools.

Our Facility

  • The Maria Luna Food Service Facility is located at 1515 AL Lipscomb Way, in Dallas. Opened in 2008, it was built with funds from the 2002 bond program.  Named for Maria Luna, an icon in early Dallas history, we carry on daily her passion for delicious and healthy foods.  Our 153,575 square-foot building houses administrative offices for Food and Child Nutrition Services, a central food service warehouse, a commissary, a huge freezer/refrigerator area with a 3,100 pallet rack system, a bakery and production kitchen, a training kitchen, a packaging area, and a 189-seat auditorium.

With more than 200 schools and more than 140,000 students, 鶹is the second largest district in Texas, and the largest in the DFW metroplex.  The Food & Child Nutrition Services department is a nationally-recognized student nutrition program, rating in the “Top Ten” of such programs both in Texas and across our country.  Everything we do is based on boosting student achievement through the service of no-cost healthy meals to our students.
