• What is a School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)?

A SHAC is an advisory council that assists the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the district's health education instruction. The SHAC provides recommendations to the school district on health and wellness issues. The Â鶹ÇøSchool Health Advisory Committee Focus Guide provides additional information.

Every independent school system is required by law to have a School Health Advisory Council; of which the majority of members must be parents who are not employed by the school district. Once the members are selected for the SHAC, they must be appointed and approved by the Â鶹Çø. They will serve on the committee for the school year and will meet as a council at least four times each school year.
