Meet Our Principal
  • Ms. Kelly Brennion

Ms. Brennion was born and raised in Texas. She followed in her grandmother and mother’s footsteps to become a teacher. Ms. Brennion started her teaching career at Buckner Terrace Montessori right here in Dallas ISD. She taught 2nd and 3rd grade and loved being part of a close-knit school community.

In 2008, Ms. Brennion joined Walnut Hill Elementary as a Reading First Coach. She spent six years there focused on assisting teachers with building strong reading instruction that directly impacted students. After that, she moved to the Reading Language Arts Department in Dallas ISD. During her tenure in the Reading Department, she created close reading text modules, text sets, and a vocabulary handbook that were used districtwide. Ms. Brennion then joined the Early Learning Department and focused her efforts on PreK. She worked with teachers across the district to build strong SEL and literacy-based classrooms.

After spending four years in central staff, Ms. Brennion was eager to return to a campus; she joined J W Ray as the reading coordinator. That year the ACE school moved from an F rating to an A. The next year J W Ray consolidated at Cesar Chavez Learning Center and Ms. Brennion would become an assistant principal. In March 2020, Ms. Brennion was named principal of Cesar Chavez Learning Center.

Ms. Brennion is a dedicated, passionate educator committed to equity and excellence. She believes all children can achieve regardless of socioeconomic status or cultural background. She will not allow a zip code to determine the fate of scholars. Ms. Brennion is committed to ensuring all children are college and career ready. Daily she tries to walk in values of the Cesar Chavez Learning Community: excellence, growth mindset and integrity.
