    Parent University

    Every month, we host parent academies with the purpose of empowering our parents to help their children succeed in school. 

    PTA

    Our John Q. Adams PTA is reved up and ready to go.  In the works for this year is a Fall Carnival, t-shirt sales and much more to benefit the JQA community. 

     
    VOLUNTEER INFORMATION
     
    Note: In order to be a volunteer at John Quincy Adams, you must fill out an application online at 
         dallasisd.voly.org and be approved. 

    What a PARENT VOLUNTEER can do to help:

    §  Greet students during morning arrival at front of school (7:15 am – 7:55 am)

    §  Assist teachers and staff with students in the cafeteria (7:15 am – 7:55 am)

    §  General Classroom “housekeeping”: sharpening pencils, cutting construction paper,
    filing, classroom library organization, setting up centers and project preparations

    §  Managing centers/stations during group time

    §  Assist with Reading to a small group of students

    §  Assist students with writing skills (penmanship)

    §  Assist teachers and staff with students during lunch time (10 am – 1:00 pm)

    §  Help monitor playground (10 am – 1:00 pm)

    §  Help with main office and workroom duties: filing, general cleanup, copies, deliveries, etc.

    §  Library duties and re-shelving books

    §  Bookroom organization and duties

    §  Assist the Nurse and Counselor with events and activities            

    What a PARENT VOLUNTEER CAN NOT do:

    §  Discipline a student

    §  Volunteer in their child’s own class for more than 10 minutes

    §  Gossip or just “hang out”

    §  Enter an empty classroom

    §  Be disrespectful towards staff


    Remember, you must sign in at the main office every day you volunteer.  You will receive a pass that is valid for that day only.   A teacher must also be available to need any assistance.  Any volunteer not following the rules will be denied volunteer access. Thank you for your help!  It is most appreciated.  Together, we can help our students grow academically and socially, and teach them all about teamwork, school pride and volunteering.
     
    Información para voluntarios

    Nota: Para ser un voluntario(a) en John Quincy Adams, debe llenar una aplicación por Internet en dallasisd.voly.org y tiene que ser aprobado(a).       

     Actividades que pueden realizar los voluntarios:

    §  Recibir a los estudiantes por las mañanas en la entrada principal (7:15 am – 7:55 am)

    §  Ayudar a los maestros y staff en la cafetería (7:15 am – 7:55 am)

    §  Actividades generales en el salón, tales como: sacar punta a los lápices, cortar papel de construcción, poner papeles en sus folders, organizar la biblioteca del salón, ayudar a acomodar los centros de aprendizaje, ayudar en la preparación de proyectos.

    §  Colaborar en los centros/estaciones de aprendizaje de acuerdo al horario establecido
    en el salón

    §  Ayudar a que los niños lean en grupos pequeños

    §  Ayudar a los niños a mejorar su manuscrita ( la manera correcta de escribir las letras y agarrar el lápiz)

    §  Ayudar a los maestros y staff en la cafetería durante la hora de lunch (10 am – 1:30 pm)

    §  Ayudar a monitorear a los niños en el área de juegos (10 am – 1:30 pm)

    §  Ayudar en el cuarto de copiado, con actividades como: limpieza del cuarto, sacar copias, entrega de copias, etc.….

    §  Actividades en la biblioteca- organizar libros y acomodarlos.

    Lo que los voluntarios NO pueden hacer:

    §  Disciplinar a los estudiantes

    §  Ser voluntario en la clase de sus hijos por más de 10 minutos

    §  Crear chismes y/o rumores ó sólo estar de visita

    §  Estar en un salón vacío o desocupado

    §  Ser irrespetuoso(a) al staff de la escuela

    Recuerde que debe de registrarse en la entrada principal cada día que venga como voluntario(a). Recibirá un paso que es válido por ese día solamente.  Un maestro(a) también debe estar disponible en necesitar ayuda. Cualquier voluntario(a) que no sigua las reglas será negado acceso de ser voluntario(a).  Gracias por su ayuda, es realmente apreciada. Juntos podemos lograr que nuestros alumnos crezcan académica y socialmente y enseñarles acerca del trabajo en equipo y voluntariado.
