 A long-time coach and teacher in Dallas ISD, Marisela Lopez is in her fourth year as an assistant director of athletics for the district.

She has been teaching and coaching in 鶹since 2006, when she taught business education and coached girls’ soccer at Thomas Jefferson High School. In 2010, she moved to Sunset High School to coach girls’ soccer and teach business education. She also was an assistant volleyball coach at both schools. She became the assistant athletic coordinator at Sunset in 2012 and was recognized by the district as its assistant coordinator of the year in 2015.

Sunset girls’ soccer won district championships in 2019, 2020, and 2021 and were bi-district champions in 2017, 2018, and 2021. Her teams at Thomas Jefferson won district and bi-district championships in 2007. Lopez was the district 12-5A coach of the year in 2021 and was the 2007 district coach of the year at Thomas Jefferson.

Prior to coming to Dallas ISD, she taught and coached girls’ soccer in El Paso, first at Bel Air High School (1999-2002) and then at Americas High School (2002-2005).

A Certified Athletic Administrator, Lopez earned a bachelor’s degree in management computer information systems from Park University as well as a master’s degree in educational administration with an emphasis in school leadership from Grand Canyon University.

She has two adult children, Sergio Martinez and Alejandro Meneses, and two grandsons, Taylan and Neo Martinez.
